Missing Building - An Appeal

Ahoy there, synagogue on the horizon
Cllr. Kelly searching for the missing building
Can anyone help my colleague and Councillor for Leabridge Ward, Linda Kelly? In an incident unfortunately all too typical of the rampant crime afflicting Clapton, Linda left her old synagogue in Lea Bridge Road on Saturday and returned only to discover that a gang had stolen the entire building. Linda was distraught to discover the loss and even more distraught to discover her insurance did not cover the theft as the building had inadvertently been left unlocked and without having been properly listed as Grade II.

Only last year, in a speech as Deputy Mayor, Councillor Kelly had argued persuasively for the preservation of Hackney's Jewish cultural heritage, saying: "Hackney’s Jewish community is one of London’s oldest. Its rich cultural heritage has made an extraordinary contribution to London’s spiritual, intellectual and cultural life for centuries."
The only saving grace of the whole affair was that The Groveller tucked the story away on p7 and Ferris Bueller resisted the temptation to print the front page headline: "Jewish Labour Councillor Loses Synagogue". Anyone with any knowledge of the disappearance of Clapton Synagogue should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  1. I believe I may have spotted the missing building in Egerton Road, complete with handy planning permission, Grade II listing and keys to the front door. I guess it just uprooted itself and moved to a better neighbourhood.
