Wow, have you seen the news today? Not everyone can claim direct lineage from a famous person or group, but it looks like some of us have some very special DNA indeed.
According to Associated Press, a joint research team from Harvard University, the University of Leipzig, the University of Barcelona and the Max Planck Institute has concluded that, 100,000 - 400,000 years ago, Hominids had black hair and dark complexions whereas Neanderthals had fair skin and ginger hair. This discovery comes on the heels of the revelation that Neanderthals also had the gene known to influence speech in modern humans, so they may well have been the fore-runners of modern orators.
A group of paleoethnologists - working together with supporting pathologists and artists - have been able to reconstruct a 3-dimensional model of a female Neanderthal with these trichological and vocal characteristics, along with an impression of what such a woman might look like today.
It makes me feel so proud to know that I'm descended from such important gene stock.
