I've made no secret of the fact that, as a member of the ruling Labour Group on Hackney Council, I've never claimed any expenses. So I'm squeaky clean when it comes to the recent allegations of expenses induglence and fraud. And so are the two MPs for Hackney - the MP for Hackney South, Madge Hillside and the MP for Hackney North & Stokie, Diane Portillo. In my opinion, both of these women are a credit to the Labour Party and have been fine servants to the long-suffering population of Hackney, regardless of the fact that I think Madge is a creep and Diane is a looney lefty. But this is not time for disharmony - it's time to unite against the anti-working-class running dogs of capitalism who publish the Torygraph and are determined to smear our fine men and women into defeat at the next elections. |

Being an MP inevitably involves significant expense on office services and staff, communications with the electorate, representing the constituency, etc. I'm sure that everyone will agree that the paltry combined sum of £258,222 incurred in parliamentary expenses last year by Hillside and Portillo represents excellent value for money to the voters of Hackney. After all, you'd be hard pressed to get a Borough Chief Executive for a sum like that. And it's hardly more than ten times the average income of a Hackney voter. In typical style, the Tories and LibDems will have the knives out for our honest, hardworking representatives. So I'm going to pre-empt the smears by investigating their expenses myself. Over the coming days I'll be going through every one of their expenses since 2005 to prove that every penny spent by the taxpayer was well spent. So watch this space for proof that our Labour MPs are squeaky clean. Why don't you join me? Links to the expenses files can be found at the foot of this blog page. |

Christmas 2007 must have been a great time for Madge Portillo's friends. I spot a large number of electrical goods being purchased on parliamentary expenses in November and December - an iPhone, blackberry, TV, digital camera... Plus £175-worth of photos of "An Evening With Diane" - presumably a mis-spelt momento of the late HRH The Princess of Wales.
£175 sounds very cheap to me - especially when compared with the £500 we paid an anonymous photographer to take pictures of Madge Portillo at the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Black Women in Public Life.
Probably quite innocent, the consultation fee paid to Business Inc., but they do specialise in offshore banking and tax avoidance. No - definitely an innocent explanation. Probably went to see advice on setting up a parliamentary charity for Malawian orphans.
I have to say, I think it is going to be a fruitless exercise going through my expense sheets. Anyway, when push came to shove whilst I voted somewhat ambiguously on the introduction of transparency of Parliament, Madge "Stationary Cupboard" Hillfield never voted for transparency. So why don't you focus on her receipts and keep your beady eyes away from mine.
Don't speak too soon. I've already found some expenses claims that Diane Portillo will have to repay including at least one double receipt and one claiming the change on a receipt rather than the actual bill, which was smaller. But I'm sure you are right - I look forward to starting work on Madge's opus magnum soon.
Before she became an MP, Harriet Harman was the legal officer in the late 1970s for the National Council for Civil Liberties. When Miss Harman joined NCCL in 1978, PIE, the Paedophile Information Exchange, had already been affiliated for three years. Another group, Paedophile Action for Liberation, a Gay Liberation Front offshoot, had also been affiliated to NCCL until it was absorbed by PIE. PIE, which campaigned for adults to have sex legally with children, only broke off its relationship with NCCL when it went undercover in 1982, the same year that Harriet Harman left her NCCL post to become Member of Parliament for Peckham.
NCCL people were earlier involved in keeping the name of an NCCL council-member, Jonathan Walters, out of the People newspaper when it ran an exposé of Paedophile Action for Liberation, of which he was secretary, in 1975. The People still ran the story, but Walters was not named.
Even more extraordinary is the fact that a current Cabinet Minister was running the National Council of Civil Liberties at the time all this was going on.
The Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt MP, Secretary of State for Health, became General Secretary of NCCL in 1974. The very next year, 1975, NCCL invited the Paedophile Information Exchange and Paedophile Action for Liberation to affiliate. In the year after, 1976, the now-notorious paedophile Tom O'Carroll was invited to address the NCCL conference, which promptly voted to 'deplore' the use of chemical castration treatments for paedophiles.
Also in 1975, Patricia Hewitt joined the Campaign for Homosexual Equality, as a 'straight', in the same year that Keith Hose of the Paedophile Information Exchange addressed its second annual conference. Hose moved a motion of censure on the conference organising committee for 'relegating paedophilia to ancillary status in conference.' The motion was seconded by Trevor Locke, who just happened to be a member of the Executive Council of the NCCL. 'An awareness and acceptance of the sexuality of children is an essential part of the liberation of the young homosexual,' the motion went on. It was duly passed.
Jack Dromey, whom Harriet Harman married in 1982, and who is now Treasurer of the Labour Party, was also involved with the NCCL. He served on its Executive Committee from 1970 to 1979, so he was there when the decision to invite the two paedophile groups to affiliate was made. NCCL also set up a gay rights sub-committee at the same time, members of which included prominent paedophiles Peter Bremner (alias Roger Nash), Michael Burbidge, Keith Hose and Tom O'Carroll. And of course Walters and Locke were on the Executive.
Labour Councillor (Newton Aycliffe/Durham – In Tony Blair's Sedgefield constituency), Martyn Locklin – Convicted on 8 counts of rape and indecent assault on teenage boys in 2001, and jailed for 15 years (reduced to 12 on appeal). Locklin was a top local Party bigwig on first-name terms with Tony Blair, after escorting the former PM during visits to his constituency on several occasions. The judge also put the Labour rapist on the sex offender’s register for life, telling him: “You will be watched for the rest of your days. You need to be”.
Labour Councillor (Bridgend/South Wales), Iestyn Tudor Davies – Convicted, jailed for 7 years, and placed on the sex offender’s register for life in 2005, for repeatedly raping a 9-year old girl.
Labour Parliamentary candidate (Cheadle/Cheshire), Paul Diggert – Subject of a 2002 police investigation into the procurement of underage girls for sexual purposes via Internet chatrooms. According to the `Sunday Mirror` (3/11/02), Diggert admitted to having four underage girls that he was `grooming` for sex. In 2004 Diggert was convicted of making and distributing indecent pictures of children.
Prominent Kent Labour Party activist, Mark Tann (who has met Tony & Cherie at Party functions) – Convicted and jailed for 15 years in 2002 for sexually assaulting a girl of 9, and raping a 4-year old girl on 2 separate occasions. And no, that’s not a miss-print. She was FOUR YEARS OLD.
Labour Mayor and Council Leader (Westhoughton/Lancashire), Nicholas Green – Convicted and jailed for 10 years in 1998, for 3 rapes and 13 counts of indecent assault against little girls aged between 6 and 10. He raped one woman on her wedding day.
Labour Councillor (Gosport/Portsmouth), Neil Redrup - Convicted and jailed for 4 months under the Sexual Offences Act in 2007, on 4 counts of voyeurism, 1 charge of indecent assault, and 1 charge of gross indecency. Cllr Redrup had set up cameras in his bathroom to spy on his female lodgers using the toilet.
