Fighting threats from Stalinists and Fascists to use court injunctions and physical violence to silence free speech | The Luke Akehurst blog - The genuine Luke Akehurst weblog about politics, elections, the Labour Party and that ghastly Hackney place. Ignore counterfeit Luke Akehurst blogs - this is the genuine article from the chap who whips Hackney Labour councillors in his spare time. Now with extra added ingredient Linda K Smith. Helps wash your family whiter! "My favourite film is Dr. Strangelove, Or: How I Learnt To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb" - Luke Akehurst "Funny and clever but not particularly nice" - Time Out "With added foie gras, steak, soft cheese, claret and port (hic!)" - Luke Akehurst "In gustatus perquam putidus est" - Vatican Bank "Not so much 'Who's Who?' as 'Who's Sleeping With Whom?'" - Peter Mandelson "You can judge a blogger's politics by the colour of their blog banner" - The spoof Luke Akehurst "By a coalition of Trots, tree huggers, anarchists, Tories and a nasty little clique over-excited about my hair colour" - Luke Akehurst | |

I must make it clear that the sentiments shown on the poster depicted in this posting are, of course, those of the demonstrators and not of me or my blogsite. I think it's perfectly reasonable that fellow councillors keep quiet about unpleasant issues in their personal lives. We are here to serve the public, not to lay bare our souls.
where can I obtain a copy for my front window? Love it!
Just out of interest, where does the idea that I'm "upper class" come from? Doesn't really fit with my estuarian vowel pronounciaton.
I think these people call you "upper class" as a term of ironic despisement - as with Prescott playing croquet and Blair swanning around with Gulam Noon, and Chai Patel. They may be making reference to your membership of the Barneys Club and your Bolly-swilling afternoons at Summer Ball.
Perhaps a similar but reverse ironic comment could be applied to Margaret Becket, who may possibly be referred to as a "caravan chav".
Actually I prefer Veuve Cliquot to Bolly (and Saint Emillion Grand Cru to either).

Eh?
Yes - the spoofster fooled me with this one as well. Obviously spent too much student time "chasing totty" and not enough time at Wine Club meetings.
To "anonymous", re. your recent unpublished comment postings.
Let me make absolutely clear to you that I have no intention of allowing you to put gratuitous, unpleasant homophobic comments about councillors on my website and hence I have used my moderator facilities and rejected your posts.
Are you sure it was Darren Parker you saw in Hackney Central M&S? And no, that is not his picture on the article "Poverty in Hackney".
My dearest Luke,
What a coincidence that you should mention Hackney Central M&S. Last weekend I discovered that branch hold in stock a lovely line in brown hankerchiefs - perfect when one wishes to accessorise one's "blue jeans and boots" outfit. Tut tut, I really shouldn't publicly bear my sole on the budget fashionista like this, should I?
Yours submissively,
