Comrade Ortega Wins Election

Early announcements suggest that socialist comrade Daniel Ortega has swept to victory in the first round of Nicaragua's elections, joining Hugo Chávez in Venezuela, Alan Garcia in Peru and Evo Morales in Bolivia.

At last we are seeing the emergence of a socialist bloc in Latin America to challenge the hegemony of the regional super-power...

Oh God, what the hell am I writing? It's the strain of coming back from holiday and having to get everything sorted and return to work at the same time. Sorry, everyone. I'll get back to normal soon.

In the meantime I'm off to the Coach & Horses. I think I need a beer or two.

Excuse an American, but I'm very confused, Mr Akehurst. Are you a socialist like Castro or are you a conservative like that nice Mr Blair? You must surely be one or the other. What is this New Labour business?
