I want to move quickly to dent any possible speculation that I might have been involved in this afternoon's explosion in Dean Farrar Street, Home of the Metropolitan Police Authority and, more famously, home to Hazel Blears' campaign team office. I'm sure that this incident will have greatly boosted Chipmunk's chances, based on the sympathy vote, but I want to stress that even a seasoned PR professional such as myself would not dream of pulling such a dangerous stunt in order to hit the news headlines. And to suggest that I might have been seeking to get her a posthumus Deputy Leadership appointment is just plain daft. Well, at least I can say that I didn't think of any such thing.
Mercifully, neither Chipmunk nor her staff have been hurt and they have all been evacuated from the campaign offices on the fourth and fifth floors, along with campaign team volunteer MPs Rosie Cooper (West Lancashire), Kitty Ussher (Burnley & Padiham), Lynda Waltho (Stourbridge), Stephen McCabe (Birmingham Hall Green), Anne Snellgrove (South Swindon) and Eric Joyce (Falkirk), who had been manning the "Nuts For Hazel" telephone bank.
As from tomorrow morning, operations will transfer to temporary offices at Flat 1, 8 Beatty Road, London, N16 8EB. Volunteers are welcome (bring your own canapés and wine).

I should jolly well think not, too. It all brought back ghastly memories of October '84 in Brighton.
