Labour's candidate selection process this time is continuing to produce some excellent candidates, particularly in the All Women Shortlist seats.
As reported by my spoofster earlier today, Ruth Smeeth has been selected for the Staffordshire Labour marginal of Burton, which New Labour loyalist Janet Dean just about hung onto in 2005 with a majority of 1,421 over the Tory candidate - down from her majorities of 4,849 in 2001 and 6,330 in 1997. Ruth is the Director of Campaigns and Public Affairs for BICOM, the pro-Israel lobby group run by my favourite Mancunian blogger Lorna Fitzsimons and funded by Scandinavian arms billionaire Shlomo Zabludowicz and his son Poju, who owns half of downtown Las Vegas. Should any of her activities threaten to catch up with her, Ruth should be able to step up a gear and evade capture. A quarter of a century ago she finished an honourable 19th in the World Cross Country Championships.
PS. Almost completely forgot to mention that, in the immortal words of the song, "you can tell a man that boozes by the company he chooses". Ruth counts, amongst her Facebook friends, both me and Iain Dale.

Why are you so fond of Labour candidates whose track record is to reduce the Party's majority at the poll at each election? Is it just a matter of being comfortable with people as successful as you?
Ruth Smeeth does NOT work but BICOM. she is a public affairs manager at *NESTLE!*
That's right, NESTLE, the company that repeatedly contravenes the international code on the marketing of baby milks and has been accussed by a million students of killing babies. Do Nestle need more political influence? Not in my book. Will Ruth Smeeth be able to promote breastfeeding and health equality in Burton and Uttoxeter? Not till she gives us her take on Nestle's tricks to undermine breastfeeding in every country in the world.
You are quite right, Anonymous.
Luke - you must do your research more thoroughly.
Ruth's last two jobs were Government relations for multinational catering firm Sobexho and Director of national campaigns for the British-Israel Communication Centre (BICOM). She is now a public affairs manager at Nestlé.
So some might describe her career as a short trip from poisoning adults to shooting teenagers and thence to poisoning babies (although others would, no doubt, disagree with that).
Maybe the next appointment will be as HR Director for the Human Embryology and Fertilisation Authority - sacking eggs.
