It's Me Wot Won It

It's not often that I beat my chest in anthropoidal fashion and claim victory, but on this occasion I'll make an exception.

Not bright enough to hide campaign fund donationsRegular readers will know that I was called upon to don my special canvassing cape this week, transform into my alter-ego Lukerman and head up north to Salford.

In the end, I didn't spend much time on the knockers. I found that I could be of far more value to the CLP by taking up a permanent table in The Balti Massala and dispensing consultancy advice on local election campaigning.

After a tough battle Chipmunk doled out a good thumping to Ian Stewart, former TGWU North West Regional Officer turned academic. My little Salford MP was chosen as Labour candidate for the newly merged constituency of Salford & Eccles by 174 votes to 79, after a bit of a panic last week.

So now I can expect a bit of a hand up next time I stand myself, on the quad pro quid basis. And better still, it's going to be rumpy-pumpy night tonight after I get back to Hackney and a certain person whose waist measurement is the same as Chipmunk's height.

Nothing about Home Secretary Jacqui Smith and comments about Hackney?

You secret lover Diane can't keep her mouth shut and reckons it's safe for women to walk the streets of Hackney at night. Well maybe it is for a big lump like her. As usual as she is concerned about is money. Typical New Labour

Diane Abbott, the Labour MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, said that Smith's fears about her constituency were misplaced and invited the home secretary to join her for a night-time stroll around the borough's streets. "Jacqui is quite wrong to suggest that Hackney is a no-go area for women after dark. She is feeding a culture of fear which is bad for our many bars, restaurants, art galleries and other entertainment venues."
